Matthew 2 - After Jesus was born, the wise men set out to see Him and bring Him gifts. Herod was angry that he was tricked by the wise men so he had all children killed of a certain age. Jesus escaped it because Joseph, his dad, took him to different cities as he was advised in a dream. They ended up in Nazereth. Genesis 2 - God makes Adam in Eden, then makes and brings Adam many animals to name. Adam does this and then God says that it's not good that Adam is alone. God makes Adam sleep, takes his rib, then makes Eve who Adam calls Woman, because she came from man. Romans 2 -.Paul explains that wether you know the law or not, you will be punished for doing bad - more so if you specifically knew the law. He also confronts Jews that they will not be declared righteous simply for being a circumcised Jew. He stresses that physical circumcision isn't what matters, but spiritual obedience is more important. 1 Thessalonians 2 - Paul reminds the Thessalonians how blameless he and other brothers where when they were serving in Thessolanica. He recalls how delighted he was that when they heard them teach the word of God they they regarded it as such. He expresses that he wishes to come back and see them but Satan has hindered it. Job 2 - Once again, there was a meeting of all the sons of God and Satan was present. He had been walking around the earth once again and God asked him about Job again. Satan still wasn't impressed with Job and stated that Job only loved God because he hadn't lost his health. God gave permission to Satan to harm Job, but insisted Job must remain alive. Satan gave Job terrible soars that covered his whole body, so much that when Job's three friends came to see him, and comfort him, they didn't recognize him. When Job's three friends did arrive to him, they sat on the ground with him for a week morning with him. Psalms 2 - This chapter seems to reference Christ Jesus as the Son of God. Cool. Proverbs 2 - Again we are encouraged to heed wisdom and to seek it. If we don't bad things will happen. Joshua 2 - Joshua sent to spies to spy specifically on Jericho. The two men stayed the night at Rahab the prostitute's house. Men from Jericho came and Rahab lied to them about the location of the spies and misdirected them. She then requested that in return for the safety she gave the two spies that they spare her and her families life when they came to overtake the land. The spies agreed and advised her to tie a crimson cloth to her window and gather her family into her house. Then the spies hid in the mountains for a few days before they returned to Joshua to inform him of what happened. Isaiah 2 - The Day of the Lord will be a time when God rises to terrify the wickedness on the earth. People will cast away their idols of silver and gold and go in to caves. God warns to stop trusting in man, and start trusting in Himself. Acts 2 - On the day of Pentacost, the Holy Spirit came upon Peter and the other 11 apostles. They started speaking so that many in different languages could understand them. Some accused them of being drunk, but Peter denied it. He then proclaimed that Jesus was foretold to be the Christ and Lord by the Prophet David, and that 'these men' had the Lord crucified. This truth cut these men to the heart and they asked what they ought to do, and Peter advised them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus. Now there were about 3,000 believers and they were selflessly selling their possessions to make sure that none of them were in need. They spent much of their time fellowship and listening to the apostles teaching. These are my personal bible notes as I'm going through the Professor Grant Horner Bible Reading System. Matthew 1 - The genealogy of Jesus Christ, plus the Birth of Jesus. Genesis 1 - The Six days of the creation of the world. Everything that God made was very good! Romans 1 - Paul writes to saints and thanks them for their faithfulness and starts to explain there is no excuse for sinners to deny God and be sinful. Keywords: Idolatry, Homosexuality, lesbianism, Gospel, unashamed. 1 Thessalonians 1 - Paul writes to the Thessalonians and congratulates them that their faith is an example to others. Job 1 - Job was a pretty good guy, he "feared God and turned away from evil". Satan proposed that Job only loved God because his life was good. Satan, with God's permission, destroyed much of what Job liked and Job ripped his clothes and worshiped God. Job said "Blessed be the name of the Lord. He gives and takes away." Psalms 1 - Blessed is a man who meditates on God's law (maybe word) day and night and avoids sinners and sinful ways. This man is like a tree that is getting the right amount of water. Not so for the wicked, they will perish. Proverbs 1 - Wisdom is good. Listen to it, and better things will happen than if you don't. If you don't heed wisdom, you'll be sorry. Joshua 1 - God said to Joshua, after Moses died to go and take possession of the promise land. There is another mention that meditating on the Law of God day and night will bring success. Joshua explained the plan to the people and they said that they would follow him and they hoped God was with Joshua in the same way He was with Moses. Isaiah 1 - God, through Isaiah, was telling the people that they need to repent. He was saying how they are His creation, but they deny Him by sinning. God was telling them that even though they are guilty and sinful, there will be a time when they are forgiven if they repent. Acts 1 - Luke writes to Theophilus about what happened when Jesus was taken up in to the cloud, how there were two angels that said to the men that Jesus would come back in the same manner that He left. He also tells about how the 11 remaining apostles choose Mathias to be the replacement for Judas - who bought a field and then killed himself. My Thoughts: I love the new year. Anytime is good to start reading God's Word more, but January 1st seems to be the easiest. My wife and I have decided to do the Professor Grant Horner Bible Reading System this year. We're really excited about it. One of my top 10 favorite things to watch is Lightening and other crazy weather. Here's some more pictures of such an event.
Today I was involved in a haboob... or rather, I experienced one. Check out the haboob photos here.
The Mona Lisa Painting During a 3 to 4 year earthquake in the 1500's a blank white canvas fell to the ground, followed by various paint buckets and brushes. The brushes got paint on them and due to vigorous shaking from the earth quake ‘painted’ a picture of a woman. This ‘painting’ was discovered by Leanardo in Vinci, Italy and named “Mona Lisa” nearly 30 years after his death. Think that’s crazy? Here’s another one! On October 13th 1792 the first President of the United States of America, George Washington, wanted a new house. He wanted a house built for a President. He knew that the American people would not want to spend tax money on a mansion for just one family so he decided to pray for a house. He got down on his knees and prayed to God that He would make for him a presidential mansion. He politely asked God if the mansion could be located at what we now call 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. Although it took more than 8 years for the house to be created, God slowly granted Georges wish. It was reported that upon completion of the mansion there was a very loud ‘poof’ sound. The above stories could be called many things; amazing, incredible, or my favorite: foolish! They are ridiculous; no sane person would believe them. We know that if there is a painting, especially one as ordered and artistic as the Mona Lisa, then there was a painter. We don’t need video proof, or scientific studies done – common sense tells us that painting = painter. All we need is eyes that see, and a brain that works. The same is true with a building, such as the white house. There was no ‘poof!’ God didn’t speak the building into existence. The White house building was built by builders. If there is a building, we know there were builders. Building, builders; any fool can understand this. Speaking of fools… Have you ever been fooled? Have you ever been a fool? The bible says that the fool says in their heart, "there is no God". But it's very simple to prove God's existence. What if I told you that man made Mount St. Helens? That’s foolish. Creation - things like; Mountains, Oceans, Birds, Fish, Stars, Sunsets, Seasons, Trees, Clouds, Love – were made by a creator. Creation, Creator. You don’t need faith to know that if there is a painting, there was a painter – and the same is true with creation. So now that we know there’s a Creator it bring up a few more questions. What does this Creator want from us? The Bible tells us that “God commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness.” It also says "it's appointed once for man to die, and then face judgment." Why would we need to repent (turn away), and what are we to repent from? He commands us to turn from sin (what is sin?) - sin is transgression of His Law, the 10 Commandments. Have you broken God's Law? Let's find out by looking at a few of them; The 9th commandment is "You shall not lie." The 8th commandment is "You shall not steal." The 7th is "you shall not commit adultery". And Jesus said, if you even look with lust, you're committing adultery in your heart. The 5th commandment is to "honor your father and mother." If you've lied, stolen, or looked with lust, you've broken that one. The 3rd commandment is "you shall not use God's name in vein". (saying Oh my G*d!, or using Jesus Christ as an expletive) How did you do? The bible says that when you die, you'll face judgment, remember. Will you be innocent or guilty before God? If you're guilty do you think God should send you to heaven or hell? If you're honest, the answer is Hell. The bible says all liars have their part in the lake of fire. It says in 1 Corinthians 6:10 "Do you know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, no slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. I know I'm on that list, and chances are, you are too. We don't deserve to go to heaven - another less attractive realization is that we deserve to go to hell. But I don't want that! I'm pretty sure you don't want that. And I'm positive that God doesn't want that. Do you have any idea what God did for you so that you don't have to go to Hell? The bible says in 2 Peter"...[God] is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." Most of us know what John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” God sent Jesus, His one and only Son to die on the cross for your sins. Basically, we broke the Law, and Jesus paid our fine. The bible says Jesus was beaten and bruised for our sins. God is rich in mercy. He will give grace to the humble; those who repent, and put faith in Jesus. God commanded His love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What are you going to do with this information? Don’t be fool – creation is proof that there is a creator. Repent today, turn from your sin, and put your faith in Jesus Christ. I’m telling you the biblical truth, this is no joke. What you have just read is called the Gospel, or the Good News. On judgment day, you will be without excuse – unable to plead ignorant. Repent and Trust in Jesus Christ. Saved by Grace, ~ brandt dary So, Weebly has an iPhone app now. That's kinda cool. The app apparently only helps you with Blogs. It's still pretty cool, but disappointing.
Beverly Crusher, Star Trek TNG Yes, I'm a Star Trek TNG geek... I just watched episode 5 of season 4 titled "Remember Me." I remember watching this episode from my childhood. The character Beverly Crusher watches many people disappearing right before her eyes. The rest of the crew doesn't seem to notice that anyone is missing. It reminded me that we're kind of like that too. Every day more than 150,000 people 'disappear' from this earth and myself and many others don't seem to notice. We don't really notice death until it happens to someone we know. What about our death? We will certainly notice that... I am ready to die (not that I want to...) but I am ready. Are you? Please consider taking the good person test to find out if you're good enough to go to heaven when you die... I can tell you something, I'm not good enough, but I'm going anyways. Take the test, today. ~ brandt dary Happy New Year! Indeed it is. I am so thankful to my wife for suggesting that we do a Bible reading plan this year. I am embarrassed to admit that I think I've read more in these first four days that I read all of last year. I don't know that for a fact because last year, I just kinda read 'whenever.' Maybe when I was using the bathroom or occasionally at church or community group. But this year, we're on a plan to read the entire Bible in 90 days. Four days in to it and I'm so excited about it. I encourage you to get on some sort of bible reading program. There's plenty to choose from. If you download the Bible.is app for your smart phone, it has several to choose from. I am doing this 90 day plan. Just find one that works for you and do it. Or, as my Pastor said… just do more with the Bible this year than you did last year. It's 2012 and I'm re-building my website using Weebly. I really like weebly. Not because it's the absolute best web site builder, but because it's easy and it provides most of what I need. This is my personal blog. I will blog here about personal stuff. For my evangelism blog, check out GodsWonderfulPlan.com
